How to see exactly when your CS2 pet's food runs out
The nest only says "running low". The game itself stores a food expiration date for every pet, and the console shows it in about a minute.

Every CS2 pet carries two dates the game keeps for it: the day its food runs out and the day of its next growth. The nest on the main menu shows neither. When the bowl gets low it says one thing:
The game's own textYour pet is running low on food. Grab more feed from a Weekly Care Package soon.
"Soon" is all you get. The exact date exists, and the console prints it. The whole check takes about a minute and works for an egg, a chick, a pullet or a hen.
The console check, step by step
Turn the console on. Settings, Game, Enable Developer Console: Yes. Open it with the key left of 1 on your keyboard.
Join any server. Type connect followed by a server address and press Enter, for example an address from the community server browser. Joining makes the client load your items and print them to the console. The server itself does not matter.
Scroll up while it connects. Look for the block that starts with Pet ID. One of its lines reads Food Expiration followed by a date. That is the day your pet's food runs out. The line next to it, Next Upgrade, is the date of its next growth stage.
Type *disconnect* if you did not mean to play there. The date stays in the console until you clear it.
No pet block? Make sure you are signed in on the account that owns the pet and the console was enabled before you connected. The block prints once, early, among the item lines, so scroll further up than you think. If you missed it, connect again.

What the date means
The game stores the food expiration date on the pet item itself, next to the pet's id, its seed and the date of its next growth. Feeding moves the expiration date later. The "running low" warning in the main menu appears some days before the date; the game does not say how many.
Players who ran this check in the first weeks report the same picture: a fresh hatch comes with about three weeks of food, and each bag of Chicken Feed adds about three weeks on top of what is left, so feeding early does not waste a bag. The Coop treats that as a report, not a rule, until enough owners' dates confirm it. If it holds, the Tuesday package gives you a buffer of two missed weeks before the date matters.
Letting the date pass is the one way to lose a healthy pet. The farewell the game shows is called Retirement:
The game's own textYour pet has accepted a position elsewhere. The offer included meals.
An egg has a food date too. Leave it unfed and it goes before it hatches, with the line Your egg has been moved to a warmer nest.
What to do with the date
Write it where you will see it. The rations clock on your bird's page at The Coop counts from your last feed as an estimate. When the console date and the estimate disagree, the console wins.
Think in Tuesdays. Feed comes only from the Weekly Care Package, which resets every Tuesday at 17:00 Pacific time. The package before your expiration date is the one you cannot skip.
Check again after you feed. The date moves. The difference between the old date and the new one is exactly how long one bag lasts on your pet, which is the number nobody has published yet.
Owners' dates are the proof. Every number on The Coop is reported by a bird's owner. Rations are counted as an estimate until owners' console dates replace it with a real figure, the same way the register replaces the stage estimates.
Quick answers
How long does Chicken Feed last? The game does not say. Owners who read their console date report about three weeks per bag, added on top of what is left. Your own date is in the console.
Does the egg need feeding? Yes. An unfed egg is moved to "a warmer nest" before it hatches.
Does feeding early waste a bag? Reports say no, the time is added to the remaining time. Check your date before and after a feed to see it on your own pet.
Why is the date not in the nest? Only Valve knows. The nest shows the "running low" line instead, and the console shows the date.
Can a website read the date for me? Not from your account. The date also travels inside a pet's inspect link, so a tool could show it for a link you paste. The Coop does not do that yet.
Give yours a page
Register your bird on The Coop in about a minute: its stage, its name once it has one, and its coat when it shows. You get a rations clock from each feed, reminders before the food runs out, a card that unfurls when you paste the link, and a place in the register that counts every registered chicken by stage and coat.
